Makeup Artist Tips: Proper Skin Prep Before a Photoshoot
There are many ways you can prep your skin to ensure it looks great for makeup application on the day of your photoshoot or event. There’s nothing worse than arriving on set with a patchy spray tan, slept in makeup or greasy dirty hair for hair and makeup artists to deal with. The better you take care of you the better your skin will look for makeup application. So here are my tips on how to arrive.
Exfoliation
This should be done 2 times a week on a regular basis. This will ensure a smoother skin texture with less visible pores and fine lines. Makeup will lay smoother, and skin will glow.
It is important to note that if you are planning on self-tanning to exfoliate the entire body before tanning application so that tanner is less likely to cling in patches on rough dry skin.
Hair
Hair is best styled when it is washed the day before your event/photoshoot. Arriving with greasy hair will give you lack of volume when styled.
Facial hair removal should be done 2-3 days prior to your event/photoshoot so that any redness has subsided, and the skin has had time to settle. Makeup will not adhere to freshly waxed skin.
Fillers
Makeup does not hide or conceal fine lines or wrinkles and can sometimes even enhance them. For those that prefer the method of fillers and skin treatments to enhance skin texture and plumpness, fillers are a great option before your photoshoot/event. They can provide a smoother firmer texture and prevent makeup from settling in areas of concern.
